knocking from the bottom half of the motor

And it sounds like it coming from the back half of the motor maybe a crack flywheel. Can you send send some insight on this matter

well the easy thing to check would be remove the splash shield on the tranny and check it out.. could also be the harmonic balancer

How does the noise sound like?
Is it related to engine rpm?
Does engaging gears make any difference?
