1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Install Thermostat Does Only 1 Way Installed Backwards

How to install a thermostat and does the thermostat only go in 1 way. If it were installed backwards would that cause heat to not work

You remove the housing and put it in with the cone shaped side up. If it is in backwards it would cause ove heating and it could cause the heater not to work it depends on if it is letting too much fluid through when put in bnackwards which is possible.
