Had trouble getting my key out of the ignition one day but got it out. Now I cant get the key to turn in the ignition. I think it might be time to change it. Do I have to drop the streering colum?

It makes it a lot easier. Disconnect the battery neg cable first to avoid setting off the air bag. Wait 10 minutes so the airbags internal battery can run out also. The column only has to come down not out of the car

If yiu can get the key into the run position it's simple to get the cylinder out. There will be a small access hole to insert a pick and depress a spring loaded tab to remove the cylinder, but it has to be in the run position. You do not have to remove the steering column, you have to disassemble it and remove the ignition lock cylinder case, from there you can grind off a tab from behind, and remove the cylinder/replace
