Not that I know of if you dont live in California you should be able to go to a auto parts store and have them check your codes for free.

You can get a basic code reader on Amazon for about 20 and one that will read some live engine data for about 50 they got good reviews also.I would go for the one that does some live engine data. Let me know if your intrested an I will post the links to them for you.

Your welcome thats what were here for. Yeah atleast you can see some live engine which could be helpful depending on the codes you have. Let me know the exact code numbers you have when you get them.

I found a co-worker who has a scanner. Not really sure how good it is but it shows the codes and clears them. Here are the codes that came up:

P0300

P0327

P0742

P1258

Thanks again!

Does anyone have a diagram of where the knock sensor is. I believe this is where the p0327 code is coming from.

Did the car overheat?Because the P1258 is overheat protection. Also I would be more worried about the P0742 which is a tcc circuit inop stuck on then your knock code.

The belt tensioner for the water pump went out while my wife was driving it. It may have started to overheat. I have read about the tcc. Can I repair it without pulling the tranny? I also need to smog it.

Before the smog we have to get rid of the codes lets clear codes and see which ones come back? What scan tool do you have? You should be able to fix the code P0742 without pulling the transmission.

The scanner is an Innova 3100. I was able to clear the codes. A couple days ago. The P0327 came back but no SES light. I took it on a 200+ mile round trip today and still no SES light. I'll check again for codes tomorrow.
