The engine overheated for maximum 10 minutes. My wife told me the car made a noise when she turned it off.I went out and turned on the car, no problem. I started to drive around the block and noticed the temp gauge off the end and shut car down. The noise was the fan still turning. I walked home with the intention of getting some tools and removing the thermostat but did not have the correct Torx size. I started the car and drove it home ( 30 seconds) I replaced the thermostat the next day and the car will not start now. Turns over and seems to almost catch, but will not start. My question is, is there anything that the overheating could have caused to stop working as it cooled down? I'm looking for a place to start.I have limited tools-no diagnostic stuff besides my brain.

Check to see if water is present in the engine oil. The overheating could have damaged the head gasket.
Without proper tools, it is almost impossible to find out what is wrong.
Engine compression test is one you need to do to find out if the head gasket is bad.
