The answer to my question about the Volvo V70 tailgate falling down is not sufficient to make a repair. Telling me that "It should have replaceable lift pistons" is not adequate. Where are these lift pistons, how do I remove and replace them? By the way, the official Haynes manual for the car makes no mention of this subject.

There are what looks like hood shocks. You need to remove the plastic panels at the rear of the vehicle around the headliner. Once you have removed the plastic pieces out you will see the hood supports for the tailgate. Hynes does not mention it because it is only a repair manuel for the engine. Alldata does not show that information as well. I should be able to get the instructions from our repair information from Volvo but can not attach the instructions with pictures on here. I can fax it to you if you would like to provide a fax number to my email.
