Volkswagen Golf Radiator Problem
What causes the car to overheat ?
Starts after a few minutes the temperature begins to rise.

thermostat bad, clogged radiator or bad water pump which is a common failure of the impeller breaking off

The impeller problem is with the 1999 and newer models (A4's)... not the A3's.
Still worth checking though if the other suggestions check out fine.
