what causes a volkswagen beetle 2.0 to die at operating temprature then restart when it cools off

engine light is on runs fine after driving 35 miles today it died then started after it cooled off. it is getting gas but has no power going to the plugs

I haven't got it checked yet just bought the car yesterday and had to replace the mass air flow sensor.

It had miss fire on 1,2. And distributer malfunction. I had them reset them cause I didn't know what was from the mass airflow sensor and what was from it stalling.

K nothing new has come up yet. I will drive it more tomorrow and see if it dies again. It runs great we was on the interstate doing 70 and it just died earlier today.

Ok I got some new codes p0422,p0322,&p0411 I did notice it hard bad gas fumes today. So. Oils the first cause the others and make it fume like that.

p0322: faulty engine speed sensor / crankshaft position sensor

No signal to the Engine Computer = no-start or stalls

Once the sensor cools, it may start working again.


The sensor is located to the right of the oil filter housing.

When the engine is hot and wont start are you loosing spark?If so measure the resistance of the crank shaft position sensor with a multimeter.Let me know what the readings are.
