Tried to install a stereo and now lights on back don't work and hard to start and keyless entry doesn't work. Took it to mechanic because I got a fix it ticket for back lights not working (I was not aware that had been effected as well) took car to mechanic explained what was happening. He replaced a wire but said that he was not able to trace problem all the way to its source and said the only way we could make sure car would be fixed properly was by replacing wire harness which would cost 1500.00

So what fuse is blowing? Also why dont you just go over your work from when you installed your radio? Also thats ridiculous that he wants to charge you 1500 for what?A new body wiring harness? That sounds like a scare you away price that he doesnt like to fix or doesnt know how to fix wiring problems. Have you checked all the fuses in both the inside fuse box and the one under the hood?

Regarding 98 saturn s series. My son and a friend actually tried to self install stereo and wires had been snipped my son tried to put everything back together when we started to have issues with keyless remote and alarm not working and the car not starting sometimes and then of course we did not that the lights in rear we're not turning on as well. Took it to mechanic we thought maybe fuse but I wanted the work to be done "right" on Saturday. The car turned on when we left mechanic shop and since then we are not able to start the car or charge it and the battery is new. Mechanic had mentioned that he replaced a portion of the wiring but said he was not able to tell how far damage was and strongly recommended wiring harness for the 1500.00.

All the times I have ran into where someone installed a radio and the lights were inop they just blew a fuse. The fuses are to protect the wires and components sounds scary he just started replacing wire not knowing where he would end up. The wires to the radio as far as also the tail lights should just be the parking/running lights is that all your missing back there? Also have you checked to see what fuses are blown? You are my eyes hands etc I can't see check or fix anything thru the computer.
