I have had my radiator replaced, about half the hoses, and the thermostat replaced. The fan works with the AC on but does not seem to when it is not on and it still tends to run hot when the AC is on. I have heard an occasional bubbling noise when the car is first started but I have not been able to pinpoint the location. It overheats when at idle and usually takes a lot of stop and go trips in a short period to overheat. Any suggestions?

If the fan works with the A/C on, that proves the circuit is fine and the PCM have full control. These fans are programmed to come on at very high temps anyway, most over 225 degrees. This engine is prone to intakes gasket leaks and blown head gaskets so I would start out with a good, long pressure test.

keep an eye on coolant level for any loss.your fan sensor also may be bad.

This engine doesn't have a specific fan temp sensor. The PCM controls the fan using the same coolant temp sensor that it uses to regulate fuel mixture and numerous other functions so a problem with it is unlikely.

The head gaskets have also recently been replaced, forgot to mention that.
