I have a 1998 Mercury Sable V6 3.0 liter. When the engine is running it idles fine. When shifted in reverse or drive the engine bogs down and dies. What could be causing this problem?

is the check engine light on??

check the idle air control motor.

check fuel pressure as well.
clean throttle plate on both sides with choke cleaner and IAC hole, scan for codes and check fuel pressure
