I own a 1998 Kia Mentor (kia sephia) and last time it was running it started making a loud banging noise as I drove it. When I started bringing it back to the house I gave it a bit more gas and something went clunk and it just stopped running. Now every time I go to start it I can see the engine trying to turn over. You can see it trying to force the engine over but it just won’t go and it stops in this one spot in its movement. I turned the engine backwards and it hit the same spot and the same when I try and crank it over again it hits in the same spot. I am trying to tear down the engine at the moment but would like a more professional opinion before I start doing anything more so I can try and target an area

Something has given way and it could be a connecting rod or piston. You would at least need to remove the cyluinder head to gauge the extent of damage.
