Jeeps rpms jump like crazy sucks air and stalls after giving it some throttle

My jeep starts but rpms fluctuate dropping to the point of almost stalling and then climbing to 3, 4k and does that rapidly. stalls after getting on the gas a few times, and when it does stall it sounds like its sucking air. its a 1998 jeep grand cherokee with a 318 5.2L v8.
Have replaced the timing gear and chain, plugs, wires, distributor cap, and the catalytic... What the H3#* else could it be??

What did you fix? Did this problem occur only after fixing the timing problem?
