I have a 1998 F150 with a 4.2l engine. What could cause the battery light on the instrument cluster to light even though the gauge shows the battery is charging at the same rate it always has?

Cables on the battery are tight and clean (battery is 7 years old).

(what would cause the battery light on instrument cluster to come on? The voltmeter gauge shows it is charging at its normal rate.)

I would have the battery tested also do you have a multimeter to do some testing.

Yes, been driving it for a week with the battery light lit and it hasn't died on me yet.

Yeah, since the battery is about seven years old, it's probably time for a new one. I'll have it checked out.

Also have your alternator tested with the battery.
