1998 Dodge Ram Speedometer Does Work Until Reach 30 Mph Transmission Will Shift

my speedometer does not work until I reach 30 mph, so my transmission will not shift out of low until my speedometer starts to work at 30 mph---how do I check the speed sensor? can I take the sensor out and clean it,or will that help any?

Chances are the sensor is bad. They are inexpensive and easy to replace. As far as cleaning it, it may help, but chances are it won't. I have seen the cluster go bad as well.
