I have a 1998 chevy cavalier ls 2.2 it will overheat and the coolant will boil out of the surge tank and it also will make a gurgling noise?

Yes, you could need a new thermostat the symptoms match. It's a relatively cheap fix to try. If it gurgles cold when it is full then you may have gasket issues.
