When my car is idle my oil gauge gets close to.

When my car is idle my oil gauge gets close to the red but as soon as I hit the gas it goes back to the normal place. Only in idle will it go down. My car has high miles and I'm afraid it's quitting on me. Please help with this question!

What is litre size of engine? Use an analog gage in place of oil pressure sending unit, if possible, and double check oil pressure. Does it use any oil? Cylinder compression ok?
