I am looking at a 1998 Eldorado with 56,000 miles that is for sale. It has a steering system light on the dash. It drives fine. Is this an expensive fix? The people who have the car for sale assure me that the car steers fine. "Probably a sensor" he said.

Have it scanned for codes. Check the power steering fluid level.

According to our reference material, the only steering related sensor is the steering wheel position sensor, which is located at the base of the steering column. See if it's disconnected, the wires or broken, or something obvious that would cause it to fault.
