On my 97 VW Jetta lost tach, oil light started to flash

Both issues appeared at the same time, I checked the oil pressure (at the head) at 35 lbs at 1000rpm. As it is a 1.9 IDI diesel, the tach is fed from an alternator signal at the w terminal. From others I hear that the tach and oil sending wiring may be connected.
do you have any suggestions that will narrow down the cause of the problem?

Check your fuses and relays as the oil pressure runs through that. You may just have afuse blown. The tach is connected to theoil level sensor.

O.K., Found the problem, the w wire from alternator to the tach had a break near the starter harness. Fixed it and both tach and oil light issue resolved.
