My 1997 Pontiac Firebird TA needs new shocks and struts. If I don't get them replaced now -- what, if any, damage can that do to my car? Thank you so much!

So who told you need shocks and struts? Are they leaking or is your car bouncing more then usual when you hit bumps? Alot of places use replacing struts as there staple if the struts or shocks are bad or good.

The mechanic at the dealership where I bought my car and get my oil changed said I needed new ones. It bounces more when I hit bumps than it used to. It rides much rougher. I have owned sports cars all my life i.E. Corvettes so I am certainly not expecting it to ride really smooth. I am the original owner of this one. It doesn't bother me to "bounce around" but I don't want to damage it. Thank you so much.

What I worry about is it effecting the stopping distance if it effected handling or it caused bottoming out. Those are things to watch out of and be worried about.
