Temp gauge rises to mid-point; both intake and outtake hoses are hot to the touch yet only cold air blows out of vents into cabin area. In SE OH and need heat and especially defrost to work. Have replaced thermostat/gasket and have had both hoses blown out with compressed air to no avail. Help! Have a cardiac kid who cannot be cold in the winter and it's the only running vehicle we currently have.

Okay, if both heater core hoses are hot, then coolant is flowing through the heater core. That leads me to the blend air door. The blend air door. The blend air door is a vent door located near the heater core. It opens and closes allowing hot air to enter the vehicle. If it isn't working, you won't get heat because the heater core is blocked by it.

In 97, I believe they used vacuum to operate this door. Check for vacuum leaks under the dash and check it for operation.
