1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse After Drive Car Gets Hot Turn Off Try Start Again

After I drive my car and it gets hot I turn it off and try to start it again and it doesn't turn over until it cools down then it starts right up. Why? And also why do I have to keep the gas pedal pushed to keep the car running? If I let off at any time it shut off why? Please help
