First I know the cv joints are bad in this car because of the clicking and rough stopping. BUT, I have this crazy wooshing sound while driving almost sounds like metal on metal to me. I first thought transmission but I read somewhere online that if they are completely gone it can be the cv joints. I don't know whether to take this thing to Aamco or my regular mechanic, I don't want to pay more than I need too.

Without any diagnosis on the problem, it is not possible to make any comments and to noise is something almost impossible to diagnose online as the source of the noise is not known.

Get your regular mechanic to check the noise first. After all you need to get the CV joints replaced.

depending on the noise, it could be a simple problem of the brake backing plates getting too near the rotor or the brake pads are due for replacement as the wear indicator could be brushing against the rotor.
