Bought a 97 Honda Accord 4 cylinder H22B2 motor that needed an engine rebuilt. So I rebuilt the motor and tried to start it. It will not run. Pluged the Equus 3100 Innova CanOBD2 Diagnostic Tool into my 16 pin diagnostic plug on the car. The car started and stayed running. Then I unpluged the CanODB2 from the diagnostic plug then the car just stopped running. I unplugged the wire from the code reader and then just the wire alone I plugged it into the 16 pin odb2 connector on the car. The car runs. Unplug the wire and it stops. Bought a 2nd hand ECM from Pick a part thinking its the ecm. But it just does the same thing.

Can you tell me what else to check??

Check the gound circuit connections at engine harness.

Was engine running before rebuilt?

Was any trouble codes retrieved when scan tool was used?

01. Checked the ground on the harness, engine.
02. The engine over heated and had a blown head gasket.
03. And there is no code comming from the ECM.

Like I said when I use the detachable wire from my ODB2 pluged into the ODB2 connector it runs. unplug the wire it stops.

Really confused.

Something is missing and it most likely is a grounding circuit for the PCM. Check the continuity between terminal 4 and 9 of your OBD-II cable. If there is continuity, then the engine is running with the cable helping to ground the PCM.

Use a jumper to bridge the DLc of your vehicle terminal 4 and 9 to test if engine runs. When cable is plugged in, does the CEL indicate when engine is running?
