Manual transmission act like it doesnt want to go in gear

I have a 97 ford ranger with manual transmission with 223000 miles on it. It acts like it doesnt want to go in gear sometimes. It usally starts when the truck as been parked for a while. It acts like it doesnt want to go into first or reverse. I have to force it in to gear by repeating trying to push it in gear. Other than that everything shifts fine no problems. Every now and then at a stop light if I go from 4th to N and then try to go to first it doesnt wont to go into first. I dont want to or have the moneys to buy a new tranmission.
