My AWD '97 Explorer keeps blowing the #26 Fuse.

5R55E/4R7OW
overdrive, DRL
system, backup lamps,
AWD, rear defroster

I have replaced the fuse & tried to eliminate the variables.

The overdrive switch & rear defroster work fine.
I can put the vehicle in reverse & the backup lamps work.
But, if I put the vehicle in DRIVE the fuse blows.

Any thoughts?

To get the cloumn covers off you have to remove the 3 phillip head screws on the lower cover and the tilt steering wheel lever. If the lever has been removed before it will unscrew easily. If not you will need pliers to remove it. They then just unsnap and you can remove them. Once in there you can look at the wiring coming out of the stalk. It is very tiny and you will have to look hard to see where it is rubbed through. If you find the problem you can try to tape up the bad area.
