Chevrolet Silverado Coolant Problem

My 1997 Chevy Silverado 1504 wheel drive Z 71 starts to smoke but then stops and I keep losing coolant no shaking machine being like if it was a head gasket run smooth as possible and I just replace the heater core what am I overlooking here

I'm betting that you have a leaking intake manifold gasket. that engine is notorious for that. I would remove all the spark plugs and then do a cooling system pressure test leaving pressure on it for a good bit of time and then spin the engine without plugs watching for one of the cylinder to spit out coolant.
