Only gets hot when driving. Can idle all day.

Make sure the coolant level is up to par and leave the cap off -start the car up for a few minutes-now pinch the upper hose a few secs while looking inside the radiator let go-the coolant flow should increase if not, sounds like the water pump impeller is defective-its not moving the coolant fast enough to get cool down-
