Why is my car excellerating w/o gas being applied or no cruize is on.

While driving two days ago I noticed the car engine revilling up while brakes were applied at a stop light. When I removed my foot off brake, on green light, my car's ditial read on dash started to climb and car was speeding up w/o gas being applied. Since we were headed for the expressway to drive home I tried to allow it to go unless I had to break. I made to xpressway and the speeding up w/o me applying gas continued for about 40 miles, then it stopped and it drove normal the rest way home. Next day when backed from drive, before I could get to
a stop sign, I tested to see if it would repeat this and car started to speed up w/o gas being applied. I turned around and parked it.

is the check engine light on?? these are known for a vacuum leak at the throttle body to intake boot. get it checked to verify.

u need to replace the tps on the throttle body.youll see it is able to be adjusted when you loosen the bolts.replace it and adjust it to 5volts with a voltmeter across the switch.then tighten the switch down also check for a leak like asc said.
