Saturn SL1 Shifter Problem

I have a standard transmission on my saturn, and my 2nd, 4th, and reverse arent wondering and I believe it may just be the cable because it always was hard to shift but now only the top shifts work 1st, 3rd and 5th gears work fine i was wondering if i should just replace the cable or is it possibly the gears??

First you have to see if the cables came loose from the transmission or inside shifter? Most commonly the cable with the black end that attaches to the inside shifter breaks. They sell a repair for it but i wouldn't use the dorman brand one those dont hold up.Check those cable.ends and.let me know what you find.
