I have a 1996 mitsibuishi mirage de coupe that I got from my friend. He says it has a blown head gasket, I checked and I found coolant with the oil. My family says its too much work and I should just scrap it. What should I do?

I have seen so many engines get destroyed because the anti-freeze did not get changed or the head gasket blows. If you can see coolant in the oil you are going to have an overheating problem and the engine is being damaged from the coolant in the oil and will need a full rebuild. Rebuilding an engine can cost several thousands of dollars. So, depending on the value of the car you have to decide if its worth more than the car is worth to rebuild the engine. If it is a high mileage car and is not in pristine condition, I would say scrap it and get the money from a salvage yard for the car. Put that towards another car. I always advise customers to buy a Honda as I feel they are the best and most reliable cars on the road. Even getting an older one with 100,000 miles on it is not a bad investment.
I hope this helps.
