I am a 50 yr old woman with as you can see, a pretty old car. Rear brake light will not shut off after turning off car. I pulled out the fuse for it and they went off, then plugged it back in and they came back on, so I guess it is not the fuse. If it is the brake light switch, is this something that I can buy and change or do I have to take it somewhere to be done? If it is easy enough for me to do, are there diagrams and instructions on how?

Check the brake switch at pedal support. There should be a rubber stopper for pushing against the brake switch button and most probably it has disintegrated and is now missing. Get the stopper and depress the brake pedal to plug the stopper in. If brake pedal is too stiff, start the engine while doing it.
