96 sable wont shift into 4th gear, service engine light is not on

Have you performed any recent work to the car? How is the tranny fluid level? Is there an O/D (over drive off) button?

Actually the PCM was recently replaced approximately 500 miles earlier. Fluid level was checked this morning level fine didn't smell burnt

Fixitmr, could you help me to replace my VSS on my 1998 merc sable.? I understand it is on the transmission, but where? I believe the wiring from the VSS runs up to the PCM under the dash? Also a friend had said to remove the passanger side tire to help gain access. thanks much greasymike
