The engine stalled while I was shifting to 3rd gear.(I was in the process of overtaking). I tried to start but all it did was to crank the engine. Battery and fuses are okay. The fuel pump is not working when I switched the ignition key at "on". Ive read that it was supposed to start pumping at that switch. I tried to directly connect the pump to the battery and it is working. (So its not the fuel pump). Ive been having problems with shifting recently. The car seems to stall during the 1st to 2nd gear shifting. Overtaking is also slow compared a year ago.

I would recommend that you check the fuel pump pressure to confirm it is within the manufacturer's specs. Even if you hear it run, it may not be producing. Also, there is a fuel pump relay that may be bad, Check that too.
