1996 Lincoln continental smoke coming from under hood no known leaks

I have a 1996 Lincoln continental was working perfectly fine a month ago only problem was brakes were grinding and starting a few weeks ago there was smoke coming from under the hood. There are no leaks that any one can see and its not over heating but smells like something is burning. Brakes have been fixed but still smoking not sure what else to do.
