1996 jeep 6 cyl oil pressure gauge drops to 0 at idel but resumes 35-40 when you excellerate. Bad pump or sending unit?

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge, if normal replace the oil pressure switch. If abnormal could mean oil pump and/or engine bearing.

Raz has given you the correct way to diagnose the problem but you may find it cheaper and faster just to try another sender. They are cheaper than the labor time to test it mechanically.
