The torque converter clutch or shift solenoid may be bad. The torque converter may be failing. Check the fluid for dis-coloration or a burnt smell and look for small particles of metal. If you see any of this you need a rebuild. Take it to a transmission shop as opposed to a standard repair facility as it takes so many special tools and experience to rebuild an automatic that shops usually send them out and you end up paying more. AAMCO is overpriced and no better than a reputable shop near you. Use the search engine on this site to find a transmission shop near you.

Also, you should have the trouble codes pulled to see if the problem is electronic. Any Advance Auto or Auto Zone will do this for free.
