Fuel problems

My car had died on me awhile back and when it died it was acting like it ran out of gas so I figured it was the fuel filter so I replaced the fuel filter and it started up right away so I started driving it once again and then it died on me again with the same symptoms so today I checked for codes and it read that the air control valve needed t be replaced so I replaced it and still nothing. The vehicle cranks up it just wont start.
