My car will turn over but will not fire. We have replaced the rotor and distributer cap, spark plugs and wires, fuel filter. I was driving my car to work the other day and it lugged twice and the engine died. I still have full power, lights, stereo, etc. So it is not the battery

That would be my guess, no spark like a bad distributor which is common. Check to make sure. If there is none, make sure the coil is getting power and check the crank sensor.

Ok.I know it has been a while but we have not had time to deal with this. We checked to see if we were getting spark and looks like we are not getting spark. When we test the coil to see if it is getting power we are having an issue with the ohm meter. We are using a dt-830B digital multimeter but it has an option of 200, 2000, 20k, 200k and 2000k on the ohm meter section. I am not sure what setting to use on the multimeter. In my chilton's it also wants us to check the primary winding resistance and the secondary winding resistance. Not sure what the difference is or how to check them seperately. Also, does the ignition have to be on when testing these. We also took the oil cap off while trying to start the car and the cam shaft was turning because the valves were moving. Please help. So frustrated! Thank you soooooo much for your advice.

With the key in the run position, you should be getting power to the coil. If the key is off, there will be no power to it. As far as the different settings, they are designed for different levels of power. Start at 200.

Thank you for all your help. We ended up calling a professional to diagnose and found out it was the distributor. Just in case you wanted to know. Have a great day and Thanks again! :)
