I just bought a 1996 Honda Accord LX. It seemed to be running smooth and didn't seem to give me any problems until the other night it started stalling whenever I would stop at a red light for more than 30 seconds. Now this past weekend I went to turn it on and it wouldn't start unless I revved the engine really hard. It happened every time I tried to turn the car on. The "friend" who sold me the car said it could be that I need a new fuel filter but I'm not sure how much I trust their opinion after not sharing what TRUE issues the car has so What could really be wrong?

No once it's on and I'm driving it's fine but when I do stop at a red light if I don't put it in neutral and rev it a little it shuts off. To start it I have to press the accelerator all the way down. And I don't know what the other things mean, I need mechanics for dummies or something.

Try cleaning out the idle air control and EGR valves and see what happens
