Jimmy will crank then die shortly after catching gear

Cranks fine 90% of the time but always dies almost immediatly after catching gear. My own assumptions have been fuel filter or pump but afraid it could be a number of alternate problems.

1ST MAKE sure that you have NO security light on or blinking
with key on
2nd check fuel pressure and suspect bad fuel pump
check fuel pump wiring top of gas tank (very common failure )
