Ford Ranger Sensor Problem

1996 ford ranger 2 wheel drive 2.3 eight spark plug, start it cold idles OK, take off before operating temp, trucks runs good until you shift to second, then runs like its only firing on two or three cylinders once it hits operating temp seems to run OK. If you leave it cool off same problem, should I take it to the ford dealer or it it a sensor problem thanks jerry

I would say lets check the coolant temp sensor. If you have a digital multi meter we can test it to make sure its bad.
