Chances are you have a bad oil sending unit. Do you hear any ticking or knocking when the light is on? What I recommend is getting a mechanical oil pressure gauge and checking the pressure that way, Most parts stores will lend them to you and all you do is screw it in where the present sending unit is located. Do that and let me know how much pressure you have at an idle.

IDLE IS NORMAL?........OR 'BOUT TO CUT OFF? (SOMETIMES IT WILL FLICKER IF PRESSURE IS LOW, W/ LOW RPMs)

WORST CASE.............MEGA ENGINE WEAR

BEST CASE.........OIL SENDING UNIT IS MALFUNCTIONING.......VERIFY WITH A MECHANICAL GAUGE

WITHOUT YOUR VEHICLE INFO----I JUST GUESSED!

I LOOKED YOU UP AS A '96 RAM W/ A 318....THIS WAS MY RESULTS

IN THE PAST WITH 2 OF MY PREVIOUS CJ5s---WHEN MY PRESSURE GOT DOWN TO 20 PSI---THE ACTION I TOOK WAS TO INSTALL A HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP--------THIS BROUGHT ME BACK TO THE NORM OF BETWEEN 40 AND 60 PSI........BACK THEN, MY NEW PUMP WAS JUST OVER $100, I DO MY OWN WORK--SO LABOR WAS FREE........IMMA PLUMBER, W/ QUITE A BIT OF DIY AUTO EXPERIENCE

SHOULD YOU NEED TO BUY ANYTHING-----ANYTHING AT ALL----- FOR YOUR VEHICLE (EXCLUDING OIL) THIS MAY HELP YOU NOW AND IN THE FUTURE

IF YOU DON'T FULLY UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS-- JUST ASK!........"A124" WAS WORKING 5 MINUTES AGO! (YOU GOTTA SEARCH FOR THEM AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK TO GET THE BEST ONES......NOT ONLY FOR VEHICLE PARTS, BUT OTHER STUFF TOO)
