The rear hatch on our 1996 chevy tahoe 4-door will not open. The mechanism still triggers when you push the button to open it so I do not believe it is an electrical problem. It simply will not open anymore. This was not the result of an accident it just stopped opening one day (huge inconvenience)we cannot get the tailgate down w/out the hatch being open. I believe I would have all necessary tools to fix this just don't where to start w/out breaking anything. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank You-Brett D.

Well it's a tad ruff. But if you use a larger flat head screw driver. You can wiggle the latch open. It's only a thin metal piece but you have to do some prying to see it. The just just it a pull down and it should pop open. Then just bend the latch back into place and oil it. Also have someone hit the button and try pounding near the latch on the outside. Just give it a few good hit while some hit the latch button. Both worked for me. And I had the problem cause I took the top hatch out of a junk tahoe and it was lock. So good luck
