I got my left front wheel bearing replaced a year ago

My mechanic told me I need to replace it again. Is this a scam? I got an oil change and they gave me an estimate for further repair. They told me that my left front wheel bearing was falling out, and that I need to replace it. I went home and looked at my old invoices, and I found that the exact same wheel bearing was replaced a year ago. I called back my mechanic and asked what was going on. They told me they'd get back to me. Twenty minutes later I got a call.

They said that the warranty was up, and that the corolla had issues with the wheel bearings. They said it wasn't uncommon to replace it frequently. It seems weird to me because this is the first time I've had a problem with the wheel bearing since 1995. Also, the other bearings are fine, and it's the exact same one that's falling out again? Is my mechanic trying to rip me off? How long does a wheel bearing last, on a 95 Toyota Corolla last once it's replaced?

It can go bad that soon if the quality is bad or a defect is present or the installation was faulty. In any case you wil have to inspect next time before warranty is up. A bad wheel bearing should be noisy like a big snow tire with the noise increasing as you go past 20 mph. Turning the wheel quickly should alleviate/lessen noise.
