Toyota Celica Hood Problem

The battery is dead. I jump the car of and it purrs like a kitten, but as soon as I shut the hood, it stalls. It seems that as soon as the metal of the hood makes contact with the clasp that locks it in place, the engine stalls. When I run the jumper cords, it starts back up and only stalls when I shut the hood before driving off.
