I'm driving down the road and a hear a pinging sound, 2 minutes later my car shuts off, and i cannot get it to start since, when i turn the key to start it all i hear is a clicking noise from what i think is the starter, friend of mine said it might be the altinator i replaced that got my batterie charged and installed it, and the same thing still happens. any ideas?

Could be a blown fusible link and ignition switch

thank you, i think there is a short somewhere because i'm now getting some smoke from a ground wire that crosses beside the engine (the plastic is melted) and i am getting smoke from underneath the air filter. would a faulty wire ground wire cause the car to die while driving it and then not let it turn back on even tho i have lights, A/C, radio everything?

Best check it, if its smoking its a hot wire that's shorted to ground
