I'm driving down the road and a hear a pinging sound, 2 minutes later my car shuts off, and I cannot get it to start since, when I turn the key to start it all I hear is a clicking noise from what I think is the starter, friend of mine said it might be the altinator I replaced that got my batterie charged and installed it, and the same thing still happens. Any ideas?

Could be a blown fusible link and ignition switch

Thank you, I think there is a short somewhere because i'm now getting some smoke from a ground wire that crosses beside the engine (the plastic is melted) and I am getting smoke from underneath the air filter. Would a faulty wire ground wire cause the car to die while driving it and then not let it turn back on even tho I have lights, A/C, radio everything?

Best check it, if its smoking its a hot wire that's shorted to ground
