Car engine stopped running while I was driving the other day. Will start back up easily but will not idle and engine dies out when accelorator is depressed. I know it could be the fuel pump or the fuel filter. Any other ideas?

Is the Check Engine Ligh indicating?

Since it restarts easily, I don't believe it is the fuel pump or filter. It should be something else.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, the check engine light is coming on. And interestingly enough when I just went to check and see what lights came on upon startup, the car engine refused to start or even turn over. There is however, still power but I hear only a click when I turn the key.

If the CEL is indicating, it means an error has been detected in the engine control system and you need to retrieve the trouble code to understand what is wrong.

The above link shows how to retrieve trouble codes.

You either have a bad battery or a loose connection. Have the battery tested. Remove and clean the battery terminals, retighten and retest. This should be done after retrieving the trouble codes as disconnecting the battery would erase the trouble codes and you would have nothing to fall back on if it fails to start.
