Car has problem shifting out of park

My car is starting to have problems shifting out of park. Has automatic tranmission with gear shift in between seats. Sometimes push the release button on shifter and it shifts no problem. Other times it wont shift unless I bang it. Sometimes wont shift for a while then shift with no problem. Only has problem shifting out of park no other times.

Sounds like something is bound up sticky from soda coffee etc getting in there or a failing shift lock solenoid. Next time it wont shift get your ear real close to the shifter area of the console see if you can hear the solenoid while pressing the brake. Your going to have to remove the console to see whats going on inside the shifter assembly.
