The engine is turning over but no spark is going to the spark plugs but the distributor is working in other cars so what else can stop the spark plugs from getting a spark other than the distributor

Look for a crankshaft position sensor and automatic shutdown relay.

Can't say for sure where it's located but start by looking near the vibration damper / crankshaft pulley. Here's a photo from roackauto. Com to show what it looks like.

You need a signal from the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor in the distributor to have spark.

I'm finding my information on rockauto. Com. Here is what they show for the ignition coil for the 1.8L engine. It sits inside the distributor. The distributor for the 1.5L looks identical but they don't list a separate ignition coil for that engine, just the entire distributor.

They also use different terminology. Instead of an automatic shutdown relay, they show an "MPI" relay which might be the same thing. To do this troubleshooting right, you should have the service manual to use for reference. The closest I can find is for a '92 model and they only show the diagram; no photos.

If you find that relay, it should have 8 wires. Check for voltage on the black / red wire. It should have 12 volts all the time.

Next, there's two connectors on the distributor. The two-wire connector has a black wire with a white stripe. That one appears it should have 12 volts coming from the ignition switch. From there things get lost. They do not show a separate crankshaft position sensor. Everything is shown contained inside the distributor but there's an Engine Computer involved too. Nothing on my diagram spells out which wires are for which functions.
